("One of “65 Best-of-Their-Type Rugs Sold in 2024") Located in the great desert of Southeastern Persia, Kirman has been an important trading and weaving center even before the time of Marco Polo. Kirman carpets were some of the first antique Persian rugs to make their way to the West. The esteemed workshop of master weaver Tausensian adds considerable acclaim to this over 200-year-old weaving. The field contains a finely etched allover floral pattern consisting of rows of “shield” medallions, delicate ascending cypress trees, and minuscule blossoms resting on a patinaed khaki ground. The design also features pairs of cloudband motifs, an ancient design ascribed to early Chinese artwork. The unique detailed design and wonderfully aged soft color palette imbue this piece with a serene majesty. The border suite expertly displays the level of craftsmanship and dexterity known to this venerable workshop. The primary border, based in soft coral, is adorned with flower-filled cartouches. The upper central cartouche encloses the master weaver’s name, Tausensian, in calligraphy.
