("New Arrivals Gallery")Adroit, unconstrained artistry reveals the talents of a highly improvisational weaver. Rather than just the typical stylized floral secondary motifs, she treats us with a whimsical display of miniscule tribal elements. Each iteration of the renowned St. Andrew’s cross pattern is rendered with unique ornamentation, including birds, flowers and vinery. Its color combining is extraordinary, emphasizing an ochre hue, which shifts through delicate abrash usage into a rich rust red, and lapis blue as complements to the spacious fawn reserve. The outer border is adorned with an elaborated interlocking Greek key design popularly known as the "Ocean Wave" or "Eagle’s Head" motif enhanced by spirals in the "rolling" edge of the wave. The artist's free-spirited approach continues through the dynamic secondary border into a third inner border that is only rendered on the vertical edges. At more than 150 years old, this rug is in superb condition with predominately heavier pile.
