(High-Decorative)
("New Arrivals Gallery") This sublime turn of the 20th-century Heriz carpet epitomizes the celebrative artistry of this beloved village style, which combines a rustic and direct folk art aesthetic with a sophisticated knowledge of color, spacing, and proportion. Its lotus centerpiece is the nucleus of a shapely starflower medallion; each petal contains beautiful polychrome palmettes adorning stalks like vibrant feathered scepters. The unusual denim blue background is rippled by selective abrash color shifts evocative of a lustral pool upon which the vivid verdure of the field drifts and sways. A buoyant mid-tone color palette makes this eye-catching piece a standout among its peers, while the glow of the superb wool used in its construction illuminates every hue from within. In the rosy sandstone border, the weavers riffed on an exotic floral theme that is a welcome unexpected twist to what is more often seen in antique Heriz weavings. Its condition is superb, with heavier pile and secured fringe ends. It would be a happily transformative artwork for any dull room, effortlessly harmonizing with a variety of decors.
