Twitter Facebook Pinterest(High-Collectible) ("The California Collection") The bold, geometric 'Star of Wisdom' motif has captured the imagination of Caucasian weavers for untold generations. The Lesghi people created their own unique version of this pattern, as seen in this enticing iteration on a rarely found and tremendously prized ivory ground. Also within the field lies a cosmos of eye-catching hooked talismans, the age-old rug symbol for the ‘Wheel of Life.’ concept, among an array of elemental stars that are placed in such a way as to convey a quantum movement, flashing from one place to the next unexpectedly. Interstitial zones are further populated by spontaneously placed daisy blossoms, aerodynamic conjoined seed forms, and tiny twinkling crosses. The wide ivory pattern houses spiky cruciform flowerheads with extended tendrils, known as the “crab pattern,” shown with slight compression of the horizontal and improvised turns at the corners. Of early date, this sweetheart woven artifact has endured the ravages of time, retaining very good condition overall.
