Twenty narrow vases (two only partially seen) glow in burnished gold, and spinach jade green produce starflower-adorned stalks in this exceedingly rare allover design. Connecting each contiguous vertical column of vase and stalk is a profusion of filigree vinery with individualistically drawn blossoms. This singular rug’s dazzling palette features all the colors of the rainbow plus a hundred varying exotic shades that sparkle like New Year’s fireworks. This weaver had a watercolor impressionist painter's command of the chromatic spectrum with ingeniously conceived outlining strategies and a virtuoso abrash technique. Everything about this piece was done with an intrepid spirit and a successful avant-garde stance. Giant palmettes enshrouded by laurels fill the main border, delivering another innovative win. It is truly a one-in-the-world artwork that we are unlikely to experience again.
