Twitter Facebook Pinterest(High-Collectible +) ("The California Collection") The Bakshaish tradition is lauded for its ability to consistently create never-before-seen carpet designs, often stemming from spontaneous inspiration. With its mystical woodland of delight, this spectacular mid-19th-century artwork for the floor is the progeny of their uncanny ability to produce adventurously conceived weavings. It presents a bevy of motifs from a rich history of legendary stories and spiritual beliefs. The slender fecund stalks of budding 'Trees of Life' ascend toward the sky, the azure weeping willows and rosy-tinged bushes found below reflected overhead. Between branches, ultra archaic devices - four-legged animals, identifiable camels, and what are barely hash marks - meander through the foliage. Mild waves of madder red hues waft across the field as the backdrop to this energetic elemental tableau. Top-tier mountain wool quality has captured the still sparkling palette of hunter green, burnished gold, and Maya blue, now exquisitely mellowed through a gentle patina only possible in a mid-19th-century carpet. A suite of narrow bands filled with bustling carnations encloses an animated pattern of robust flowerheads under a coursing series of free-style oak leaves.
