The viewer is greeted with a surrealistic fantasy-scape comprised of a mind-altering series of architecturally transmogrified botanical designs and faceted avian forms that together become a transmogrified tree ascending the parchment-hued ground. Two portals reveal an onion-domed clock tower adorned with minarets, supported by fluted columns over an enchanting forest. It is unknown to us whether this represents a similar structure that actually existed or a reflection of the weaver’s fertile imagination. Cockaded bird pairs of mythical proportion, possibly the fabled simurgh of Persian legend, preen with splendorous feathered coats while perched on floating pomegranates alongside the great Tree. Boteh ‘Seeds of Life’ and other wonderful and mysterious motifs float in the periphery, adding to the thrilling intrigue of it all. A suite of narrow, intricately decorated borders perfectly frames this virtuoso, trailblazing canvas.
