(High-Decorative) Fine antique Persian Bakshaish runners are doubly prized for their great rarity and uniquely unaffected, joyful artistry. This magnificent example demonstrates both of these qualities, presenting the well-loved Herati design with exuberant creativity. This traditional motif is expressed by a spectacular assortment of unexpected hues, including rich carnelian, deep mint green, and russet brown and presents a very relaxed and overscale rendition, in contrast to most of the Persian weaving syles' work that is exceedingly tightly compressed. An expertly crafted five-border suite introduces painstaking meanders on a small scale, creating delightful contrasts. An additional dividend is this antique carpet's excellent, heavier-pile condition.
