MALAYER SAROUK, Northwest Persian
4' 7" x 6' 8" Late 19th Century Price: $6,000
(High-Decorative)
This superbly crafted Malayer emulates the revered pattern language of nearby Ferahan Sarouks. The outlined stylized floral motifs are enrapturing in their ’Tiffany glass’ clarity. The colors are masterful, with incredibly saturated hues of brick red emblazoned with a radiant azure blue and highlights in saffron yellow. Abrash, a technique of using color shading in 19th century rugs, is masterfully crafted throughout the medallion and all of the azure blue. This antique rug’s heavier pile make it all the more appealling as well as practical.
