(High-Collectible)
("New Arrivals Gallery") This profoundly evocative, mid-19th century rug from the high mountain aesthetic tradition of the Kazak region presents a menagerie of age-old symbols organized into a thoroughly unique design and, happily, in superb condition for its tremendous age. This tribal rug testifies to the spectacularly nuanced color found in early pieces from this prized substyle. The extremely rare tonal range from teal to shades of bottle green striated expertly here, creates an astonishingly striking field brilliantly complemented by a range of auburn reds. A virtuoso casual ordering of motifs extends throughout the field’s spacious display around slightly dissimilar diamond medallions. Two wide borders express a magical polarity—the inner border with its parade of single "Wheel of Life" mandalas and the magical dance captured in the outer frame’s reciprocal floating oak leaves and arrowheads. Its good pile allows this treasure to be used in all but the heaviest trafficked areas.
