(High-Collectible)
("One of “60 Best-of-Their-Type Rugs Sold in 2022") This very early, one-in-the-world little rug woven in a remote nomadic encampment in Northwest Persian Azerbaijan some 180 years ago is a masterpiece capturing the complexity and the inherent symmetry understood by the tribespeople who populated the Caucasian/Northernmost Persian areas for millennia. Its hypnotic field design has no known precedent, and the unique border provides endless fascination. The profoundly improvisational field design begins along the lowest edge of its field with a dense iteration of the traditional Herati motif, then unpredictably becomes an entirely different, more spacious, mesmerizing presentation of large and small symbols. Its brilliant use of three constantly shifting latch hook motifs and the outline of one-and-a-half diamonds creates a tremendously immersive, inspired work.
