The best examples of Heriz rugs from the very early 20th century production offer medallions of architectural proportions from the earlier Serapi tradition, an exquisite palette of harmonious tones, and evidence of spontaneous irregularities in the drawing. Here the rose red reserve holds a grand medallion and myriad stylized botanical motifs. Wide ivory corners, equally covered in design, add counterpoint. The oak leaf and rosette main border is itself mesmerizing, due in part to the sprinkles of color silhouetted by the indigo blue base tone, suggesting stars in the night sky. In outstanding condition, this versatile room size geometric carpet style is at home in contemporary to traditional residences.
