KURDISH CAMELHAIR, Northwest Persian
4' 3" x 5' 5" Circa 1910 Price: $4,200
(High-Decorative)
Traditional Kurdish weavers were renowned for a startlingly wide range of patterns and a penchant for cheerful color palettes. Here a naively drawn, elemental Tree of Life ascends the field, offering branches with leaves of opposing hues and large, geometric renditions of blossoms adorning the trunk. Carefree improvisational skill, that endears collectors to this style, is manifold in this original piece. The camel ground is beautifully accented with naturally dyed shades of pink, coral, azure blue, aqua, terra cotta red, and auburn, and walnut brown. This infectiously charming tribal rug comes to us in heavy full pile condition with soft, silky wool, making it all the more appealing to live on.
