The great rarity of the best early Persian Bakshaish carpets makes this virtuoso masterwork all the more exciting. Mesmerizing for combining visual complexity and profound simplicity, this entirely singular, astonishingly well-preserved over 1-1/2 centuries-old carpet encapsulates all the essential qualities of this avidly coveted folk art style in a single impression. The expansive soft cinnabar reserve features ripples of virtuoso abrash striation that hints at a textured surface. This creates a zone of astounding depth, making the luminiferous ocean blue of the medallion even more potent and prominent. At its center, a shining golden 'Window to Eternity’ is graced by a single poppy flower with enough gravity to anchor the entire composition and orchestrate the dramatic diamond pendants. Unusually, the stepped spandrels are adorned with a profusion of blossoms, some highlighted by a rarely found shade of apple green.
