Examples of antique rugs from the ancient small town of Tafresh, woven high in the waterfall-rich mountains of Northwest Persia, are rarely found. Unusually finely woven of exceptionally soft wool, this style’s exquisite detailing and tremendous delicacy was inspired by the nearby Ferahan tradition, explaining its similar formatting to the famous Sunburst design of the more well-known weaving center. Two stepped “pyramids” at each end are made of an aggregated rainbow of tiny circles, standing out gloriously against the cross-hatched, striated blonde camelhair ground. This long rug presents a joyful melange of vibrant colorways that fill the field and borders of deep persimmon and cobalt urns billowing forth with flowering shrubs. This glowing, unique carpet remains in very good condition
