(High-Collectible)
("Great Lakes Collection") This early, fully intact South Persian tribal rug, from the Kashkuli subtribe of the Qashqai Confederacy, is masterfully splendiferous; each boteh seed and elaborated blossom within is one note in a perfectly orchestrated chromatic chorus. As a desert people dwelling in a challenging landscape, the reverence for this powerful symbol of life’s renewal is evident. The Kashkuli “Seed of Life” design is the most elaborate and beautiful of all tribal renditions. Here floating in the corners and diagonal rows, it portrays the tiny sprout that signals the potential flower within. Enlivening the spaces between are a plethora of tiny dancing seeds, mystical ornaments, and even a totem ibex at the lower left, reminiscent of the evocative art on the cave walls at Lascaux. The delightful spacing, tilting, cropping, and spontaneous drawing could not be created beforehand but “happens” when a deeply talented weaver is fully engaged and sensitive to every detail. GLC rugs cannot be purchased using exchange credit.
