("Featured in our new print catalog") At over 170 years old, this supremely artistic, archaic-looking Shirvan provides a window into an early era that has all but disappeared from the material record. What is certain is that this weaver was a daring adventurer with a lively sense of humor! While visually related to the Gubpa sub-style, this piece is more spontaneous than its über-stylized cousins. Tribal symbols laden with esoteric meaning surround the central jewels creating a magical microcosm. Folkloric horses crane their necks to partake in the essence of a sunflower. The color palette is as celebrative as its motifs, presented upon a rich blue field that is an abrashed study of royal, cerulean, and azure tones. The main border is a never seen one-off of "exploded" Stars of Wisdom harkening to modern minimalist graphic design. This free-spirited tribal rug remains in exceedingly good condition.
