("New Arrivals Gallery") Demonstrating the substantial allure of the most harmonious, unique turn-of-the-20th-century Caucasian rugs, this memorable Kuba delights the eye with its sparkling composition that contains characteristics of the weaving traditions of Baku. The incredibly joyful, archetypal patterning reads like a dazzling display of energetic "modern art" sensibilities that belies a great vitality. A series of three octagonal medallions are nested within artful niches, their precise placement revealing the incredible talent and confident conceptual grasp of the tribal weaver. On either side are shapely blossoms that also read like phoenixes spreading their wings and ascending in celestial flight. Other spontaneous decorative details, such as tiny scattered blossoms and original polygons, amplify the deeply personal artistry of this charming tribal treat. A novel ivory border uses reciprocal 'C-shapes' flanked by technicolor bands of colorful disks that further animate the collective visage of this tribal gem. Happily, it also happens to be in superb heaver pile condition.
