Joshegan is one of Persia's oldest centers of continual village carpet craft and is known for producing extremely high-quality rugs. Superb antique Joshegan carpets are not often found on the general market due in part to their limited production, which is why we are incredibly pleased to present this dynamic room-size example. A cruciform art-deco centerpiece rests upon an ivory-stepped diamond surrounded by linear bouquets to form the core medallion. Its unforgettable reticulated field pattern is composed of a mosaic-like patchwork of woven tiles, each bearing a wonderfully stylized tree or floral cluster on different background colors that at first appear random but are actually the result of a master plan. A joyful, blazing range of colors has grown more beautiful over time, as is the case when the dyes are brewed from organic sources through the experience of many lifetimes. Subtle variations of form and color animate each motif amplifying this carpet's tremendous presence. Its infectious charm is enhanced by lustrous wool and remarkably good condition.
