("New Arrivals Gallery") Fine Tehran Persian rugs woven over 100 years ago are limited in number and coveted for their dazzling, ornate artistry and consummate craftsmanship. The primary theme is a lyrically drawn floral spray built of palmettes in varying shapes, peony flowers, and an array of smaller blossoms and feathery leaves. Lavishly ornamented, bifurcated cypress trees support an ornate chryselephantine archway lined with fleur-di-lis-shaped flora framing this central pattern. Above the arch is a single register of stained glass-like stylized roses and tulips. Throughout, the use of color is beautifully saturated in a superbly harmonious commingling of tones, especially the background color of the field - a luminous, superbly nuanced shade of teal. Achieving this soothing hue would have been a labor-intensive, multi-stage dyeing process. The darker shade of cobalt blue in the main border is a visually interesting contrast to the field. Notice the subtle color shifts in the minor bands for added dynamism. This carpet was woven in a highly unusual-for-its-type, small room-size format and remains in superb heavier pile condition.
